Image OCR Guide

What this tool does

  • Image to text: recognize printed text in images, screenshots, and photos into editable text.
  • Multi-language: built-in Simplified Chinese, English, Japanese, and Spanish language data, single or mixed recognition.
  • Runs locally: recognition runs in the browser via WebAssembly, images are never uploaded.

Tips

  1. The first run loads the engine and language data (several MB), please be patient; later runs are faster.
  2. Clearer images with upright text yield higher accuracy; use high-resolution, non-skewed images.
  3. Complex layouts, stylized fonts, and handwriting may have limited accuracy.
  4. For mixed Chinese/English, choose "Chinese + English" for better results.

Privacy

This tool runs locally in your browser and never uploads your images to a server.

Open Source Notice: text recognition is powered by tesseract.js / Tesseract OCR (Apache License 2.0). Language training data comes from tessdata (Apache License 2.0).

FAQ

Will my images be uploaded to a server?
No. Recognition happens locally in your browser and images are never uploaded.
Why is the first recognition slow?
The first run needs to load the OCR engine (WebAssembly) and language data, several MB in total. Subsequent runs are faster.
Which languages are supported?
Simplified Chinese, English, Japanese, and Spanish are built in, usable individually or mixed. More language packs can be added later.
Can it recognize handwriting?
This tool is optimized for printed text; handwriting accuracy is limited. Use clear printed images.
What if the result is inaccurate?
Use clear, upright, low-noise images and pick the correct language. Cropping the text region before recognition can help.
Which image formats are supported?
Common browser-displayable formats such as PNG, JPEG, WebP, and BMP are supported.
Will my privacy be leaked?
No. This tool never uploads your images and requires no login.
