Ebook Reader Guide

What this tool does

  • Open ebooks locally: Read EPUB, MOBI, AZW3, FB2, CBZ in your browser. Ebooks never leave your computer.
  • TOC navigation: Click any chapter in the left drawer to jump directly. The current chapter is highlighted.
  • Pagination: Paginated page-turning is the default; vertical layout reverses the direction (right-to-left). Toggle vertical, font size, theme, and margin from the right drawer.
  • Vertical layout: vertical-rl writing mode for CJK / classical texts. Switching layout reloads the current chapter.
  • Font size / theme / margins: Right drawer adjusts font size (60%-200%), theme (light/sepia/dark), and margins (small/medium/large).
  • Page counter and jump: The toolbar shows current / total pages — type a page number and press Enter or click "Go" to jump.
  • Progress percentage: Live reading progress is shown on the right of the toolbar.

How to use it

Turning pages

  • Mouse wheel: Both vertical and horizontal scrolling turn pages. Each physical gesture turns exactly one page — trackpad inertia is filtered.
  • Trackpad swipe: Swipe up, down, left, or right to turn pages; OS-level inertia is filtered.
  • Touch swipe: Swipe left or right with a finger on touch screens.
  • Mouse drag: Press and hold the left mouse button, then drag left/right to turn pages anywhere on the body.
  • Edge click: Click the narrow left or right edge of the reader (≈18% width, 64-140px) to turn the page. The center (text body) does NOT trigger page turns.
  • Keyboard: ← / PageUp for previous, → / PageDown / Space for next, Esc to close drawers.
  • Toolbar: ← / → buttons, TOC chapter list, and the page-number jump input.

Contents and settings

  • Contents button (toolbar left): opens the left drawer with the table of contents.
  • Settings button (toolbar right): opens the right drawer for vertical, font size, theme, and margin.
  • Choose another ebook: closes the current book and returns to the welcome screen.
  • Fullscreen button (far right of the toolbar): toggles fullscreen for an immersive reading view; the icon switches between expand and collapse.
  • Drawers can be closed with the ✕ button or the Esc key.

Usage tips

  1. Rendering quality varies by format: EPUB renders best, FB2 second, MOBI/AZW3 may show some layout quirks since the format is older.
  2. Switching to vertical writing reloads the current chapter — this is normal.
  3. Large ebooks (>50MB) may take a moment to load.
  4. When the body contains links or images, click directly on them rather than on the page-turn edge.
  5. Long-press to select and copy text just like on a regular web page.

Privacy

All parsing and rendering happens in your browser. Ebooks are never uploaded.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which ebook formats are supported?
EPUB, MOBI, AZW, AZW3, FB2, CBZ. EPUB is the open standard and renders the best.
Why does my MOBI file look messy?
MOBI is Amazon's proprietary format (deprecated in 2018) and was designed for low-end devices, so its structure is less clean than EPUB. Prefer EPUB when possible.
Can this convert between EPUB and MOBI?
No — this version is read-only. Conversion (especially EPUB→MOBI) needs a backend tool like Calibre and is hard to do in pure frontend.
Will my ebooks leak?
No. Parsing and rendering happen entirely in your browser; ebooks never reach a server.
What is vertical layout?
Vertical (vertical-rl) is the traditional East Asian writing mode: text flows top-to-bottom, columns right-to-left. Ideal for Chinese and Japanese classical texts.
Does it remember my reading position?
Not in this version. Position persistence via IndexedDB is on the roadmap.
Does it support PDF?
For PDFs, please use our dedicated PDF viewer tool.
