What matchmaking looks at
Bazi matchmaking takes two people's Four Pillars charts and compares them to judge whether their energies are in tune. Traditional readers usually work through the following levels, and this tool is built the same way:

Why the day pillar matters most
Among the four pillars, the stem of the day pillar stands for the self, and the branch of the day pillar is the "marriage palace", standing for the spouse and the marriage. So matchmaking starts with the day pillar: harmonious day stems mean the two are naturally drawn to each other, harmonious day branches mean an easy relationship, and clashing day branches mean more friction.
The zodiac, by contrast, is only the branch of the year pillar — one character out of the eight. Judging a marriage on the zodiac alone, as folklore so often does, oversimplifies a complex chart.
The logic of Five Elements complementarity
The Five Elements are distributed differently in every Bazi chart. The ideal case is that the element one of you lacks is exactly the one the other has in abundance, so together the two of you balance out.
The other way round, if both of you lack the same element, tradition holds that this combination complements itself less well.
Common misunderstandings
- A low score means you cannot marry: no. Matchmaking is a reference, not a verdict. Most lasting relationships are built on communication and effort.
- Clashing zodiac signs are always bad: not necessarily. The zodiac is a single character; you also have to weigh the day pillar, the month pillar and the overall pattern.
- Matchmaking can predict divorce: it cannot. Claims of that kind have no statistical or scientific basis.
About the time basis
This tool casts charts on fixed UTC+8 (China Standard Time) and applies no true solar time correction. The year pillar is bounded by the Beginning of Spring, the month pillar by the twelve "terms", and the day pillar switches at 23:00.
